Fall is the season of cozy sweaters, colorful leaves, and, of course, apple recipes! There's nothing quite like the aroma of apples and cinnamon filling your kitchen. Whether you're a fan of apple desserts or looking for healthy apple recipes, this "recipe round-up" has something for everyone...
We'll also delve into the best apples for eating and the best apples for cooking, so you can make the most of this seasonal cooking opportunity.
IMPORTANT: When you're shopping for apples, it's important to go organic. Apples consistently make the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen List, meaning they're among the fruits most treated with pesticides.
Since there are so many apple varieties, let's break down which ones are best for different uses...
Here are 10 of my favorite recipes that make the most of apple varieties, perfect for fall recipes:
I don’t wait until fall to make this salad. It’s one that stays in our lunchtime rotation all year long! I always have Safe Catch Tuna, Primal Kitchens mayo, and Go Raw Pumpkin Seeds on hand making this salad super easy to put together. I get all of these pantry staples from Thrive Market. Add salad greens, apple, and a simple vinaigrette and you are good to go!
In September I switch from making blueberry pancakes on Sunday morning to making apple pancakes.:-)
I save time by skipping the caramel sauce and instead drizzle with melted nut butter. These pancakes aren’t too sweet and have a wonderful cinnamon flavor.
Apples and pork just go together, sweet & savory. Use this recipe for an easy weeknight dinner and pair it with greens beans and mashed potatoes for a healthy spin on a traditional meal.
I’ve been making this recipe for years and it’s one of my favorites for multiple reasons. First, pork and apples. Second, you can put it in your crock pot and then forget about it until it’s time to eat.
I love making this with roasted green beans and mashed cauliflower.
An apple crisp without any added sugar, yes, please! After eliminating sugar and when I do eat it drastically reducing the amount this crumble is absolutely perfect.
With the sweetness from cooked apples and the cinnamon spice, you won’t even miss the added sugar and instead, you will be able to taste the deliciousness of real food.
These muffins are nice and fluffy and have double the apple with applesauce and grated apple. I promise you even the person who isn’t gluten-free will love these...just don’t tell them.:-)
Did someone say donuts???
I used to love getting apple cider donuts at the apple orchard. Since going gluten-free that isn’t an option so instead I can make these donut holes at home. All the same yummy goodness without the negative side effects of gluten.
Everything I love about fall in one bowl! This salad will be on repeat for the next several months. I’ll make the butternut squash, hard-boiled eggs, chicken, and dressing ahead of time so when lunchtime comes I can easily put it together.
A special treat to make to share with friends and family. Making the caramel sauce can take some time and I promise it’s worth it! Enjoy these on a beautiful fall morning with a warm beverage.
Wanting a dessert that takes just a few minutes to put together and won’t leave you feeling crummy from too much sugar? These “nachos” are your answer. You can customize this to your liking and they are a great thing to make with kids.
Change up the type of apple, nut butter, and add some gluten-free or grain-free granola for something a little different.
And there you have it—everything you need to make the most of apple season! From choosing the right variety for your culinary adventures to exploring a range of delicious recipes, apples truly are the quintessential fruit of fall.
Remember, opting for organic apples is not just a choice for better taste but also a step towards a healthier lifestyle.
So, what are you waiting for? Head to your nearest apple orchard, grab a basket, and let the apple-picking begin!
Whether you're munching on a Honeycrisp straight from the tree or cooking up a storm with Granny Smiths, you're in for a treat!
