Embracing the Seasons of Life: A New Perspective on Balance

Throughout the different "seasons of life", your capacity to focus more or less on certain things fluctuates. For instance, when embarking on a personal development journey like starting a new business, a significant portion of your time management and energy must naturally be dedicated to that, leaving less room for other things.

This suggests that the traditional concept of "life balance" is a bit of a misnomer.

Try suggesting to a new mother to maintain equilibrium in all aspects of life. It’s laughable, right?

At the same time, it's crucial not to become so engrossed in one aspect during these changing seasons of life, to the extent that we overlook the others. This lack of balance only leaves us lopsided and makes lifestyle adjustment even more challenging when we need to refocus.

A classic scenario that I've witnessed repeatedly is the person who, during a busy phase in their job, completely neglects their health and fitness. Rather than concentrating on what they can do, they fixate on what they can't do, often resulting in a start-stop cycle.

“I’ll be back when things settle down,” they say.

Sadly, when they return, they’re virtually starting from square one. Any weight loss is regained. Any strength gained has vanished.

It's disheartening to see their progress dissipate and the subsequent impact on their self-confidence. This has a lot to do with not understanding how to adapt to change and navigating life's seasons.

The green line on the graph below represents the person who falls into the start-stop trap with their fitness regime as their "seasons" change. The blue line signifies the person who adjusts their workout intensity, avoiding this cycle.
