In exploring the timeless wisdom of legendary marketing master, Dan Kennedy, I've found remarkable parallels between his insights for business owners and the principles of weight loss and body transformation. His perspectives, though primarily business-focused, offer a wealth of knowledge that resonates deeply with anyone on a journey to better health and fitness.
In one of his articles, Dan opens with a powerful statement:
“‘Stick-to-itiveness’ is a strength of character, a philosophical position, a consciously valued and directed behavior, a habit. In any business category, fewer than 5% of the owners create extraordinary incomes, wealth, security, and independence; 95% flounder, frustrated for life. If you spent 25 years chronicling the behavioral differences between the mediocre majority and high-achieving minority as I have, the most striking distinction you would find is this: winners stick to things, but losers give up easily, flit about randomly. Losers waste all of the years of their lives looking for the unicorn of modern fantasy, the Easy button. Winners find winning strategies and stick to applying them.”
Incredible, isn't it?
The first sentence alone is a treasure trove of wisdom. And that paragraph? It's akin to the Fort Knox of fitness motivation!
Let’s break this down...
Dan is talking about identity and habit right from the start. This echoes what we often discuss here - you don’t get what you want, you get who you are!
Adapting Dan’s insight to our context, we can say:
In any endeavor of weight loss and body transformation, fewer than 5% of individuals achieve extraordinary results, while feeling good and maintaining these results for life; 95% hop from one program to another, witnessing their weight fluctuate repeatedly.
With my 27 years of experience as a fitness professional, I echo Dan's observation about the difference between the mediocre majority and the high-achieving minority: the most striking distinction is this - winners in health and wellness stick to their goals, while others give up too soon, constantly searching for the next quick fix.
Those who don't succeed are always on the lookout for the Easy button - the next magic pill, potion, or powder; the latest fad diet, the newest weight loss challenge. In contrast, winners fitness focus on the boring basics. They understand and overcome plateaus with real stick-to-itiveness, and they recognize all the other positive transformations happening in their bodies, not just the numbers on the scale. They prioritize health first and weight loss second, knowing that this approach leads to the best body transformation.
Unfortunately, most people lack persistence in fitness.
As Dan puts it, “their grade on life’s report card is ‘incomplete.’”
I’ll close with Dan’s words:
“Whatever the reason for the losers’ lack of stick-to-itiveness, the winner’s reality is refusal to be deterred or distracted from their objectives and aggressive pursuit of them. Successful pursuit and achievement of exceptional objectives usually involves two key elements: sticking to a course of study, acquisition of information, learning relevant methodology even if it at first uncomfortable, foreign, or difficult; and sticking to self-imposed requirements for implementation of what is learned.”
We’re here to coach and support more winners in their fitness journey, helping them achieve their weight loss, fitness, and body transformation goals.
